Parcheggiamo presso il parco delle sculture di Reiner Kriester e imbocchiamo
una rampa cementata e poi subito sterrata in salita sulla destra. Seguiamo quindi
la sterrata, occasionalmente segnata con un rombo rosso e anche con dei +,
piuttosto grossi e non nel solito stile dei segnavia. Dopo venti minuti circa
troviamo un bivio dove continuare sulla sterrata a destra. Poi continuiamo
sempre scegliendo la strada principale fino ad incrociare un’altra sterrata, che
tralasciamo, continuando in direzione nord-ovest, praticamente senza traccia, in
facili prati che ci portano in breve ad una fornace (cartello indicatore con scritto
Fornace Madonna del Rosario) e quindi al crinale sulla val Pennavaire. Arriviamo
dunque proprio sulla sella dove parte il Sentiero dei Giganti. Con un po’ di
fortuna comunque possiamo notare il cartello in legno appoggiato su un piccolo
tumulo di pietre, che indica appunto l’inizio del sentiero, se no seguiamo
comunque l’evidente traccia che scende abbastanza dolcemente verso la Val
Pennavaire in direzione nord-ovest. Il sentiero è comunque segnato con
abbondanti bolli rossi, che aiutano nei punti dubbi che incontreremo più avanti.
Dopo la discesa iniziale il sentiero si percorre lungamente, pressoché in piano,
sotto le imponenti pareti e i torrioni del Montenero, fino a giungere ad una
terrazza calcarea dove si svolta in salita e si ci si dirige verso la Colla di Curenna.
Giunti alla Colla di Curenna, prendiamo a sinistra e saliamo, su sentiero segnato,
fino alla vetta del Montenero, segnata da un gruppetto di pietre che sorreggono
una piccola croce in legno. Da qui continuiamo sul crinale prativo, seguendo i
segnavia, fino a giungere la sommità di un nuovo monte, il Monte Pendino, dove
troviamo anche una stazione di rilevamento meteo. Scendiamo quindi dalla
vetta seguendo il sentiero segnato fino alla successiva sella, che è quella dove
abbiamo imboccato all’andata il Sentiero dei Giganti, e prendiamo a destra il
sentiero percorso all’andata, per il quale torniamo all' auto.
